The Third Week
We survived three weeks! This week Andrew had a couple good nights where he slept in his bassinet fairly well. And, we had a few longer nights where he was a little fussy. Sometimes it seemed to be a bit of gas causing him trouble, other times he seemed to be hungry every 45 minutes or so, and other times, well who knows what was causing him discomfort. Giving him a pinkie finger to suck on at least calms him down when he gets too worked up. Speaking of getting too worked up, Andrew has learned to greatly increase the volume of his crying. We could hear him before, so I don't think it's quite necessary for him to get louder. Baby's prerogative I guess. Normally babies have a two week doctor appointment and a four week. We've already had a few, and today was no exception. Today he weighed in at 7 lbs. 9 ounces. As I wrote earlier we were hoping for a gain of at least 7 ounces, so he doubled that! No more Burger Master for him... Plus eating a whole burger was a lot of trouble for someone less than 3 weeks old. Fries were easier to just slip down into his belly. On top of this good news, the doctor says we can let him go 5 hours between feedings once per day (using the strange baby math of starting the clock when you start feeding, rather than when he's done). That means Erin might be able to get a 4 hour block of sleep, in contrast to the hour and half she's been able to get so far. That should be good for everyone!

Yeah that 5 hour thing was really just a teaser. Now that he wakes himself up to eat, he has yet to go more than 3 hours between feedings. Someday!
